DIY Fall Front Porch Arch

Marci Loehner

As the leaves turn and the air gets crisp, it’s time to transform your front porch into a cozy fall haven! This DIY project is not only budget-friendly but also adds a stunning focal point to your entryway. Here’s how to create a beautiful fall arch using PVC tubing, fall garland, and pumpkins from Walmart.

A few months ago I shared a video of a couple putting together a fall front porch arch. I knew I wanted to do one, but on a budget! I promise you, everything I do around the house is functional, beautiful and friendly on the bank account! I refuse to spend a lot of money to make a house a home!

I also knew going into this project that I not only wanted to leave it up from September through November, but I wanted to change it out from fall to Christmas! With that in mind, we created this DIY Fall Front Porch project!

What You’ll Need:

  • PVC Tubing (1-inch diameter recommended)
  • PVC Elbows (for corners)
  • PVC Cutters (or a saw)
  • Fall Garland (choose vibrant colors with leaves and berries)
  • Pumpkins (real or faux, available at Walmart)
  • Twine or Wire (for securing garland)
  • Decorative Ribbon (optional for added flair)
  • Sandbags or Weights (to stabilize the arch)

How To Make Your Own DIY Fall Front Porch Arch

Measure Your Space: Decide how tall and wide you want your arch. A common size is about 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide.

Cut the PVC Tubing: For the vertical supports: Cut two pieces of PVC tubing to your desired height. For the horizontal supports: Cut two pieces for the top and one for the base.

Assemble the Frame:

Attach the vertical pieces to the horizontal ones using PVC elbows to create a rectangular shape. Ensure everything is tightly secured. You can use PVC cement for added stability, if desired.

NOTE: We opted not to add PVC cement because we want to be able to pull the tubing apart for ease of storage!

Decorate with Lights Fall Garland:

First wrap your lights around the pvc. I hate seeing light string and we will be using this for a Christmas arch as well. So I wanted the lights to be added first so that we can just updo the fall garland and it's time saving to do so! Drape the fall garland around the arch. Use twine, zipties (what we used!) or wire to secure it in place, making sure it hangs naturally. Feel free to wrap it around the frame for a fuller look!

Add Pumpkins:

Hot glue pumpkins on the floral garland for an inviting touch. Mix and match sizes and colors for visual interest. TIP: Make sure the leaf points down so it holds the pumpkin upright! If you’re using faux pumpkins, you can even attach them to the arch with wire or twine for a whimsical effect.

Secure the Arch:

If it’s a windy area, place sandbags or weights at the base of the vertical supports to keep your arch stable.

Finishing Touches:

Add decorative ribbon or additional seasonal accents like pinecones or fall flowers to personalize your arch.
