What Is Alfredo Sauce?

Alfredo sauce is a white cream sauce. It's made with butter, heavy cream, parmesan cheese and minced garlic. Marci also likes to add nutmeg, white pepper and freshly chopped parsley if it's on hand!

Why Isn't My Alfredo Sauce Thickening Up?

You'll want the alfredo sauce to thicken as it cools.

Ingredients Needed To Make Alfredo Sauce

  • heavy whipping cream
  • butter
  • grated parmesan cheese
  • nutmeg, parsley and white pepper (optional)

How To Make Alfredo Sauce at Home

  1. Start by melting a stick (1/2 cup) of butter in a medium saucepan.
  2. Once the butter has fully melted, begin to incorporate the heavy whipping cream by whisking and slowly drizzling in the cream. Be sure to constantly stir to incorporate until well combined. Allow the mixture to come to a simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Next, add 1/2 cup of parmesan at a time once the butter mixture is heated through. Ensuring to whisk so that the parmesan fully melts in between each addition.
  4. After all the parmesan cheese has been added and melted, add in the nutmeg, parsley and white pepper if using. Stirring until mixed through.
  5. Top on your favorite pasta noodle, over spaghetti squash if sticking with low carb or keto diet and enjoy!

How To Store Leftover Alfredo Sauce

Being that this alfredo sauce recipe is made with butter and heavy whipping cream, you'll want to store any leftover alfredo sauce in the refrigerator for up to 14 days. I typically store any leftovers in a mason jar and then pour out what is needed to heat any leftovers.

How To Reheat Leftover Alfredo Sauce

To reheat alfredo sauce, simply place in a saucepan on the stove and heat until it's been heated through. You can also reheat in the microwave in :45 second increments, stirring in between.
