tip to making chocolate covered strawberry christmas trees
I lack patience. It’s something I’m working on. But, if I can make these, so can you! Here’s a few tips I wanted to share:
- The smaller the sprinkles (think sugar sprinkles) the better. I tried this with cute white round sprinkles to act as ornaments but they didn’t really stick.
- You have to work quickly as the candy melts harden very quickly. Once you dip the strawberry into the candy melt, immediately place the star on top and sprinkles if you are using, don’t wait!
- If you have nails like me, you might want to use tweezers (if you’ve ever bought candy eyes, they typically come in the packaging) to place the star on the top.
- I first made these with Oreo Thins and then switched to a regular Oreo. The Oreo Thins seemed to keep breaking and it was frustrating!
- Oh and last but not least, make sure that your strawberries are completely dry or the candy melts will not stick!

how to make christmas tree chocolate covered strawberries
In a microwave safe bowl, melt the candy melts in :30 increments, stirring in between. I had to do this 3 times with my microwave. As you stir the last time, the candy melts will become smooth. Allow to cool for about 5-10 minutes.
While the candy melts are cooling, wash, dry and remove the stems from your strawberries. NOTE: It is very important that your strawberries are dry so that the candy melts stick to them.
Next, using about a tablespoon of whipped icing, coat one side of the Oreo. This will allow the strawberry to stick to the Oreo and looks like snow!
Using a toothpick on the top of the strawberry, cover the strawberry entirely with the candy melts.
Once covered, carefully place the strawberry on top of the icing. Very quickly, add the candy star and any sprinkles if you are using. The candy melt dries very very fast.
Repeat the process until there’s no more candy melts!
